At the end of this lesson you should :
- Understand that each point, r in the vicinity of a charge distribution can be characterized by a scalar quantity called the electric potential V(r). The values of this potential function (scalar field) are over the region are related to the values of the electrostatic field (vector field) over this region.
- Be able to calculate the electric potential between any points in a uniform electric field and the electric potential between any two points in the vincinity of a group of point charges.
- Be able to calculate the the electric potential due to a group of point charges.
- Be able to calculate the electric potential due to simple continuous charge distributions.
- Be able to obtain an expression for the electric field over a region of space if the scalar electric for that region is known.
- Be able to calculate the work done by an external force in moving a charge in an electric field.
